Above Group’s Annual Mission Trip

At Above Group, we talk often about Business as Ministry—the belief that our work can be a vehicle for service, stewardship, and meaningful connection. It’s not something we reserve for the office or a special initiative. It’s part of how we approach our work, our relationships, and the communities we have the opportunity to serve.

Each year, that mindset takes shape through our annual mission trip.

This year, our team traveled to Heredia, Costa Rica, partnering with a local church and community organizations to meet practical needs and spend time alongside the people there. Over the course of the week, we painted and repaired church facilities, tackled maintenance projects, and served at a home for orphaned girls. Simple, hands-on work that may not be glamorous, but makes a real difference to the people who use those spaces every day.

What stands out most about trips like this, though, isn’t always the work itself.

It’s the relationships built through serving shoulder to shoulder. It’s the conversations shared over meals. It’s the perspective that comes from stepping away from routine and being fully present in a different community, with a different pace and a renewed sense of purpose.

Our time in Costa Rica also gave us space to experience the country’s incredible beauty and culture, from standing at the edge of Poás Volcano to visiting a local coffee farm and seeing firsthand how community, commerce, and craftsmanship intersect. Moments like those are reminders that meaningful work happens in many forms, and there is value in being present for all of it.

For us, Business as Ministry isn’t a program or a once-a-year trip. It’s a way of showing up with humility, with purpose, and with a willingness to serve wherever we’re called.

This trip was a reflection of that, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.
