Correct Seismic Deficiencies, Building 14

Above Group is leading the design initiative to replace the existing Boiler House (Building 14) at the Marion VA Medical Center, addressing long-standing seismic deficiencies and supporting the facility’s critical steam operations. The existing 6,200 SF structure, originally built in the 1940s and listed as a high-risk seismic facility, was evaluated for retrofit versus replacement.

Following a comprehensive feasibility study, our engineers developed a replacement concept that balances seismic resilience, operational continuity, and preservation requirements under Section 106 review. The new plant will house modern boiler and feedwater systems, integrated controls, and over 1,650 SF of mechanical shop and vehicle maintenance space, designed to meet current VA standards and long-term mission demands.
